How does initial velocity affect the distance and time of a horizontally launched projectile?
When you launch a projectile horizontally, it immediately starts falling due to gravity. It speeds toward the ground at an acceleration of 9.8m/s^2 (on earth, some schools may use slightly different numbers). This means that it will have a set time until it hits the ground, based on the height of the object when it is launched horizontally. Now, the initial velocity (uming it's forward parallel to the ground) will remain a constant speed forward (uming no air resistance) Therefore, the faster it is, the further it will travel in this set amount of time.
